I went out last night with my girlfriends, Bethany, Laurie, Gina, Karin and Christy. We went to our favorite hang out, Buffalo Wild Wings. Now, if you've never been to a Buffalo Wild Wings you seriously need to stop reading and find one NOW! It is the best place you'll ever eat at! Not only is the food good, but the service is, well... ENTERTAINING! Zach was our guy yesterday and as Karin would say, he's a "bad boy"! He has more piercings on his body than I have--- AND I'M A CHICK! We didn't see all of them, but he certainly wasn't being mysterious about the location! Have you ever seen someone with the skin on their back pierced? GROSS! I'm glad I had already eaten my dinner! Anyway, we decided to partake in a fun game called quarters. PS... if Karin ever asks you to play, PASS!!! This is a game where you take a smaller tumbler glass and try to bounce your quarter into the glass. If you get it in, you make someone drink. We had a lot of fun playing at Buffalo Wild Wings (in fact I think the 7 year old that was keeping score for us had more fun than we did!) and talking with our new friend Zach but the night had to come to an end at some point. So we headed out to Ed & Joe's. Although the pizza was delicious, we were so tired and ended up leaving before the crowds got really crazy! In fact I think the main topic of conversation among the patrons (not my friends) was how many bowel movements they've had today and how much fiber they had to get them there! The crowd was a bit old for our taste, but we enjoyed the pizza, martinis and friendly conversation. We tried to bring our quarter game to Ed & Joe's but we could only play in between the live music. There was a gentleman there who saw us playing and said "Hey you guys are playing titaly-winks"; I thought he was hitting on me, but realized he was talking about the quarter game! I was curious about the sexually explicit game that he was inquiring about so I asked, show me how to do that! He smiled (I'm sure he was thinking, Damn I forgot my Viagra) and took out 2 nickles. He proceeded to explain that you take one of the nickles and push down with it on the edge of the other nickle to jump it into the glass. After a few miserable tries, he gave up. I asked if he wanted to see the more "g" rated version of his game, he politely declined (I'm sure he wanted to see something nasty) and walked away. HMMM... I wonder if he went home and played "titaly winks"? What a nice fellow. I guess 25 cents goes alot further than we all thought. Thank goodness for the economic crisis in today's society. We are forced to find the joys in the good ol' Washington quarter.

How much joy can you find in 25 cents?

How Special were these Games?
Sammy was the first competitor. She ran her 400 meter race at 1:40 and did AMAZING. She certainly set the precedence high for the other athletes. This is a snap shot of the final leg of the FULL LAP around the track! You can't see that she is actually competing against 4 other athletes because she is so far ahead. Way to go Sam, we are so proud of you! You will go down in Andrew History as the very first State Champion for Special Olympics.
Summer games is really cool because it hosts so many competition venues, they had power lifting, gymnastics, soccer, athletics, aquatics and bocce ball.
Mike was our first competitor on Saturday. He did a great job during his first game. He used strategies to beat out his competitor with a score of 12-7. Mike's second game was more challenging. Although Mike lost, he put up a great game for his competitor. Mike ended up winning a Silver medal (2nd place)! We are so excited for you Mike, it was a great pleasure to watch your skillz during your games!
Later that day (after we all got our sun for the day) we waited for Mary's competition. She was running the 200 meter dash. Mary had 8 girls in her division! You can see from this image how great she did as her competitors are blown away by her speed! She took Gold in her competition. Man we need to get going on our WALL OF FAME! I think Ramon wa
s inspired by his female team mates. By 4:00 he was ready to RUN! Out of the 7 athletes in his race, he also came in first place! It was a photo finish as the second place athlete was right on his heels! Ramon gave it everything he had and it paid off! Another photo for the wall of fame!
I never knew that being a coach could be so rewarding. To see the smiles on each of the athletes faces and to hear the cheers from the fans and families is such an amazing feeling. I am so proud of each of you for all the hard work and dedication that you bring to the Andrew Special Olympics team. We have 3 photos to start our Andrew Wall of Fame and I can't wait for the years to come when we can keep adding the smiling faces of our proud athletes who WON STATE! Congratulations.
Karin, thanks so much for everything you've done for us this year. You've helped to develop the VJA Special Olypmics team into the champions we are! You're dedication and compassion does not go unnoticed. Thanks to Gina and Rich for coming along on our first summer games! We had a great time and hope that you did too! I only wish I took a picture of Gina driving through the Andrew fields as memorabilia (or evidence); I guess I can just ask the administration for a picture from their parking lot cams! :)
